Crabbie's Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer

I love ginger ale, ginger beer, and many other things ginger, so when I saw alcoholic ginger beer I had a George Takei style "oh myyy" moment and decided I needed to try this. It's made in Scotland and from what I can tell is at least sort of a big deal over there, you can check out their website for more info on them.
I think it's effing delicious, and even has a decent ABV of 4.8%. The bottle recommends pouring it over ice and adding a lemon or lime wedge, but I didn't have any handy. It tastes great without as long as it's good and cold. I don't know how common this stuff is stateside, but there's three other flavors of this I'd like to try since this one was so good. Any ideas on where to get it in Alabama?

Adlerkonig Bavarian Lager

Ah, swingtop bottles. How I love your joyous champagne-like popping and ability to be resealed. For the longest time I thought only Grolsch came in a swingtop bottle but I've since seen a few that also have the swingtop magic. Here's one that I had never seen before, Alderkonig. It also has a very cool label, the old man with his eagle? looks like something out of a sweet beer ad. It pours a satisfying darkish lager color with barely any head and smells somewhat fruity. It tastes pretty good, meaning it's good but I've definitely had better. I'd almost call this a wannabe Weissbier because of the color and taste. Worth a try, but not one of my favorites.

New Belgium Fat Tire

So this stuff has been popping up everywhere around here recently, though it's been around for a little while. I figured it was worth a try so I got a variety pack of a few different kinds of beer that they make. The first one is Fat Tire, their flagship beer, an amber ale, which i tend to enjoy quite a bit. Let me tell you, this is one smooth beer with a capital smooth. I can drink this just as easily as drinking water. It has a good flavor, too, and I'd drink this again anytime. Definitely one to try if you've never had it before.

Weihenstephaner Kristall Weissbier

Ah, another Weihenstephaner beer. While this one definitely does not live up to its name of being crystal clear (as it says in small print on the bottle) it is extremely tasty and extremely refreshing. It has a very clean finish and tastes similar to the Schneider Weisse Tap 7 Original. This is easily one of my favorite beers, period, for these reasons. So good.

Steinlager - New Zealand's Finest Lager!

Picked this one up because it seemed unique as I've never had any beer from New Zealand, I guess the closest thing I've had would be Australian beer? And also because it was a 750ml bottle for $3.99.
It is one of the most plain beers with as few special qualities I've ever had without being outright bad. It's very drinkable, with a generic "beer" taste, similar to something like Miller High Life or Milwaukee's Best. I'd drink it for free but I probably wouldn't buy it again.

Goodass Food #2

What?? A post that's actually about chicken wings???
Yep. Or more specifically a place to get some delicious ones. On picturesque Lorna Rd. in Hoover, Alabama there is a little wing joint called Wing It! The wings are damn good, and so are the Cajun ranch fries. They also have burgers and a variety of other stuff but I've only ever gotten wings. I go here about once a week or so and it's always great, and not too bad on the wallet, either. I usually get a 10 piece combo with fries and a drink and it's about $9 and really, really, delicious. I want some now just thinking about them.
Here's a link to their Urbanspoon page. Check them out if you're in town.

Wernesgrüner Pils

Yep, first post in a while.
Yep, it's that beer from Aldi.
I like shopping at Aldi, as I like to get a good deal on stuff I buy to use day to day. I'll wait in line a few minutes longer if it means saving some cash. I've seen this beer there every time I go and I've meant to try it out for a while, so I finally picked up a sixer for $5.99. According to Wikipedia, it's brewed by the people who make Bitburger, a very popular German beer, which I've also never tried but plan to.
Okay, so it's cheap, it's got a cool name, is it any good?
It's not bad. Not great, but not bad. It's very bitter, so if you like bitter tasting pilsners you'd probably like this one. My girlfriend agrees with me that it tastes somewhat like PBR, and I'd put it in the same category as PBR for sure. Cheap beer, readily available, doesn't taste awful, 4.9% ABV. If I was reviewing this as a super great German pilsner I wouldn't think it was good at all. If I was reviewing it as a cheap, easy to drink beer then it gets a significantly better grade. German PBR, worth a try for $1 a beer.

Timequake by Kurt Vonnegut

Hey, I know what I like. There's other authors I like, too, I promise. I found this at my school library and decided to give it a read since it's fairly short (a little over 200 pages) and figure I could squeeze that in somewhere. It still took me over a month to find the time to finish it. In a way I like being busy and having a lot to do. I don't think I've said the words "I'm bored" in maybe a year. I do miss having time to read books and watch movies as often as I used to, but I have to get edumicated so I can edumicate others, right? Right.
So Timequake is a semi autobiographical, semi truth, semi fictional story. It can be hard to discern what is true and what isn't in this book. It's a collection of small stories thrown together as many of Vonnegut's books are, and the especially short chapters make it easy for people like me to pick it up and read a couple of chapters and put it back down until next time. I'm not going to spoil any of the story, especially since it's kind of short, but suffice to say that there's an event that occurs called a timequake. Everyone and everything in the world is suddenly catapulted ten years back in time and must relive everything that they went through up until the point where the timequake occurred. Without free will. Meaning that even though someone knows they are going to do something awful, like say marry the wrong person, they can't think differently, or express anything differently, etc. It's an instant replay, good, bad, life, death and everything else. I enjoyed the hell out of this book.
